First-party collection

First-party collection means a website gathers data about its own visitors for its own use, rather than a third party collecting across many sites.

First-party data is what a business learns directly from its own visitors and customers: which pages they read, what they bought, which campaign brought them. Third-party tracking works differently. A company outside that relationship collects data across many unrelated sites, often to build advertising profiles.

For analytics, first-party means the measurement serves the site that runs it. The data describes that site’s own visitors and feeds that site’s own reports.

In MIRA FIVE

Collection is first-party. The script runs on your own site, and can be self-hosted there; the data is used for your reports and is not shared or sold. Events your server sends through a server SDK, for Node.js, PHP or Laravel among others, or the HTTP API are first-party too. MIRA FIVE is run by Cloo GmbH in Auerbach, Germany, and is hosted in Germany. Analytics data is received, stored and processed on servers in Germany, with encrypted backups in Finland. The sub-processors are listed on the sub-processor page.

Does first-party mean compliant?

Not on its own. Where data is hosted and who collects it are part of the picture, but whether a setup is compliant depends on what is collected and why.
