AI assistant traffic is visits that arrive when a person clicks a link in an answer from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini or Copilot.

More people now ask an assistant before they search. When the answer cites a site and the person clicks, the visit usually arrives with the assistant as its referrer, and some assistants add a tag such as `utm_source=chatgpt.com` to the link. Tools that do not know these referrers file the visits under referral or direct, where they disappear among everything else.

Counting assistants as their own [channel](https://mirafive.io/glossary/channel) answers two questions: how often they send people to you, and whether those people buy. It also shows which pages assistants cite, because those are the pages the visits land on.

## In MIRA FIVE

AI assistants are one of the nine channels in Acquisition, next to search, social and email. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini and Copilot are recognised, among others. Filter the Overview on one assistant’s site, such as chatgpt.com, to see its own visits, people and buyers. That is how to track traffic from ChatGPT in MIRA FIVE: the script on your site is the whole setup.

## Example

In the Acme Shop’s last 30 days, AI assistants brought 86 visits from 40 people, and 7 of them bought, a rate of 18%. ChatGPT sent 52 visits and 6 buyers, Perplexity 21 visits and 1 buyer.
